Dear Chalk Artists,
Thank you for registering and volunteering to be a chalk artist at the Orcutt Chalk Festival on Saturday, September 27! We are so happy that you have signed up to be part of this wonderful, inspiring event. We appreciate all your time, energy and artistic talent! This event is proudly hosted by The Orcutt Children’s Arts Foundation (OCAF). Events by Krissy will be helping us run this big event!
The theme of this year's Chalk Festival is "The Central Coast."" Please feel free to create a chalk art image with that theme, however you perceive that to be. You are not required to follow the theme, but we are hoping you will. We will be giving out awards and prizes for Best in Festival 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. There will also be a People’s Choice Award for the public to vote on their favorite chalk art square at the OCAF booth.
Please sign your name clearly in chalk next to your artwork and also write your social media address so we can identify all the artists and give you recognition! People attending the event and our sponsors have various world views and beliefs. We
kindly ask you not to advocate your personal opinions and viewpoints regarding politics or religion in your chalk art. Also, keep in mind this is a family-friendly event with many elementary school-aged children attending.
It is fine if you bring a companion(s) to assist you with your chalk art square piece. There is no need for them to register for this. If one or more of these folks have already registered, but will be working with you on your art square, please contact us so we
don’t assign them to their own art square.
EVENTS FACTS:
-
The event is located at West Clark Avenue and Broadway Street in Old Orcutt, by the 76 Gas Station. (The festival area begins near the Lion’s Club on Broadway.)
-
The official event hours are from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm. Chalk artists should arrive around 8:00 am, but no later than 9:00 am.
-
When you arrive, please go to Lions Club at: 156 S. Broadway in Old Town Orcutt. Events by Krissy will sign you in, inform you of your chalk art square number, and take you to your art square where you will create your chalk art piece.
-
Most of the chalk art squares will be 6’ x 6’. A few of you will have an 8’ x 8’ in size. We will advise you of the art square size as we get closer to the event.
-
OCAF will provide chalk for you. If you need more, please feel free to go back to the Lions Club to request more. The Lions Club will also have water and snacks for you if needed. Porta Pottys will be on sight and only the artists (not the general public) may use the restrooms in the Lions Club.
-
Please feel free to bring any additional supplies you may need. We strongly encourage you to bring a hat, sunscreen, water, snacks and your art supplies. You may bring a knee pad, towels, or an easy up with weights to secure it down in case of wind (10 x10 or smaller) or a chair as long as it doesn’t get in the way of another artist and their art work near you.
-
Artists are not allowed to use tempera paint nor any sealant for their chalk art piece.
-
It is not necessary for you to obtain a sponsor for your chalk art square. Not every chalk art square will have a sponsor. We will provide and assign sponsors for some of the chalk art squares. Some of you have already identified a sponsor for your chalk art square, and we will be sure to put the name of the sponsor on a banner at the top of your square.
-
We will have a stage and entertainment. There will be food trucks, and about 20 artisan vendors. Children will be doing arts and crafts, and their own small chalk art squares (2’x 2’). Your artwork will inspire them. It always has.
You and your artwork are the central and most important component of the event: the very heart of it. People will be coming from many towns to attend the event; well over a thousand people will be seeing your artwork. We are so grateful for your service,
and willingness to share your talent with the broad community!
If you can no longer attend the Chalk Festival, please advise us immediately!
Any questions please contact Events by Krissy at events@eventsbykrissy or the Orcutt Children’s Arts Foundation Operations Coordinator, Jennifer Medina at jmedina@orcutt-schools.net or the OCAF office at: (805) 938-8966. We are so excited to see your chalk art and thank you!
